We’ve all heard or and some of us have tried the generative AI tools that are out there to assist us in many of our tasks.

Here at Citizen 11, we’ve leverage Midjourney AI specifically to speed up visual ideation and the creation of our look books for pitch packages.

With out latest project in development, the eco-horror ‘Zombees’, we’ve been able to utilize Midjourney effectively for the entire look book to date.

From ideation on the creatures…

…there are countless uses for this groundbreaking generative AI tool. We are excited to hear what other filmmakers are doing to leverage AI in their work.

Citizen 11 Entertainment is pleased to announce that writer/director Chad Costen has completed principal photography on the Canadian creature feature Mister Sandman.

The picture, which stars Keith Arbuthnot (Child’s Play, Van Helsing, X-Files) as the evil Mister Sandman and introduces Elodie Doumenc as Izzy, the film’s hero, tells the story of a mother-daughter road trip down memory lane that turns into a nightmarish fight for survival as the pair teams up with an oddball group of former summer-camp misfits to confront the author of their greatest fears. The film wrapped just under Halloween on October 30^th.

The film also stars Justine Warrington (The Cabin Movie), Linden Porco (Leprechaun Returns, Nightmare Alley), Amy King, Matthew Madzij, Alexander Moonie and Sharmaine Yeoh.

The film was shot on location in and around Vancouver, Canada.

The feature film MISTER SANDMAN, written and directed by Vancouver filmmaker Chad Costen and produced by Citizen 11 Entertainment, has been given the green light.

Nighttime Maniac Films will co-produce the creature feature that stars Justine Warrington and Keith Arbuthnot and introduces Elodie Doumenc in the lead role.

Raven Banner Entertainment has acquired foreign sales rights for the film and Canadian distribution rights are currently available.

Did you know…? The story of Mister Sandman or the sandman spans centuries. In fact, its origins may stretch back even further than our literary history can tell us. Which means it is possible that anyone who has encountered the elusive being may have mistaken it as one of hundreds of mythological creatures throughout time.

From the early aboriginal cave drawings of ‘star-people’, to the baroque illustrations of the incubus, there are countless similarities between these mythological creatures across all cultures. The fairy-tale version of an entity created by Hans Christian Andersen in the 1800’s describes a being who weaves our dreams and crafts our nightmares, while Morpheus from Greek mythology sends human-like shapes to unsuspecting sleepers. 

Extraordinary similarities also exist between the familiar folktale figure of Mister Sandman and present-day alien abductions. Pat Ballard’s original lyrics for the famous song Mr. Sandman read: “Please turn on your magic beam… Mr. Sandman, bring me a dream”, which uncannily evokes similar imagery to the thousands of victims who experience beams of light during their abduction experiences – and the use of a needle-like wand to put them to sleep.

So what if it were possible? What if we are all seeing only what we have been conditioned to see by our belief systems and culture? What if no single story of a dark, twilight traveller is true, but in fact ALL of them are true — and they are all one in the same?

It’s been a busy past few months for the MISTER SANDMAN team despite the COVID-19 restrictions that have kept filmmakers and crews off film sets.

We recently completed a successful financing round for pre-production and are happy to report that we’re progressing into a long pre-production phase of monster building, storyboarding, location scouting and production office work.

This past Monday we also did a table read of the MISTER SANDMAN screenplay and we recorded it for you – enjoy!
